"Which Direction For The New Year?" by California Janet Bludau, 12" x 24" Abstract and Impressionistic Landscape

This daily posting thing was a bit confusing to me at first!
On Leslie Saeta's blog this will be Day #3 instead of #1

I just signed up for the Leslie Saeta "30 Paintings in 30 Days" Challenge.

What am I thinking?

I decided that at worst I will fail at the challenge and at best it will get me to paint more.

AND...... this is a LUCKY painting I am posting on January 1 because I started it in December on a day where I also sold 2 paintings.  Finished date is 1-1-14.  This is unless I start noodling at it again which I do often.  But now I have to stop that because I have the pressure of churning out new paintings!

I have been a very lazy blogger of late.  Not so much lazy but having to put a few other things first in my life.  I am thinking I have a period of "back to normal" here for awhile so its back to painting for me.  Kind of intimidating to start.  I keep finding other little jobs I have to do to prep for painting.  Then I tell myself, "no more, just open the tubes of paint and go!"  We'll see if I do it today.

This is one of those pieces I really enjoyed painting.  There were virtually no struggles with it.  I had the usual decisions to make of course.  After the bowl was painted blue I thought, "No, wrong color."

I knew that changing it at that point could be a mistake though.  I still had other parts of the painting that had to be worked on, including some color tweaking.  I instead, worked on these areas.

As sometimes happens,  my "wrong" blue became a "right" blue.  Dana Cooper calls this the Push And Pull of painting.  Working on one area changes the look of another.  You have to keep pushing and pulling until the painting as a whole works.

I suppose I could have titled this painting "Strange Trees"!  They are done by palette knives, as is most of the painting.  The piece is very "edgy" (abstract) - I hope you like it!

The reflection was painted with the help of a palette knife.

This piece was already to be packed up for Art In The Park tomorrow and then I noticed that I had red oil paint all over my thumb.  Definitely not dry enough!  Oh well...........

I have way too much I am bringing anyway.  

I am anticipating a nice day in the park with familiar faces strolling by every once in a while but certainly not an art buying frenzy.  I don't think we will have serious art collectors driving in from LA to get first dibs :)  This morning it was like winter here in beautiful Newport Beach.  The streets were wet with drizzle.  Let's just hope we are a bit drier tomorrow.  So wish us all a dry day with, hey, maybe a sale or two at our local, neighborhood art sale in the park.

At Ease

At Ease is my latest painting of local dinghy boats.  

All the others have sold but this one is available,  being fairly "hot off the easel"! 

 They haven't all included dock or pier pilings but I love the strong verticals that these pillars provide.   This piece I painted a bit larger and also pushed the color - I like it and hope you do also!

Here is this Umbrella couple again!  This time I tried a yellow one and I am liking it with my woman's blue coat.  The 8 x 8 board is first painted a rich red and dried.  The lavender is applied on top but not too much... I want the red to peek through.
