This painting will be part of the Southern California Plein Air Painting Association's Annual Art Show in July IF not sold by then of course!

This piece was finished in the studio and done with a limited palette of paints.  Burnt Umber is a color I haven't used much in the past.  It makes for some beautiful new colors when combined with the blues and yellows I use.  

I hope you like it - it is one of my favorite pieces I have painted recently.

On My Easel, Janet Bludau, Abstract Graphic Landscapes

Each of these are oil on 12" Square Deep Birch Panels.

My plan is to go back in when they dry a bit, using oil sticks first. 

Then I will scratch through the oil stick applications, using palette knives. 

I hung them up together to decide if I like all the red showing through or if there is just too much of it.  Any opinions?

This is day 17 of the 30 day Challenge. 

Blackie's By The Sea is down on the boardwalk in Newport Beach and has been in business for as long as I can remember.  An institution.  I painted a smaller version and without the bike earlier in the competition.  I can't decide if I like the bike or not.  Please feel free to throw your 2 cents in there and comment below.  Stay or Go ??? 

I missed yesterday - mini emergency and I didn't have any paintings far enough along that I could quickly finish and post.  Oh well, another opportunity to remind myself of my New Year's resolution IF I had made a New Year's Resolution - Stop Looking For Perfectionism.

This daily posting thing was a bit confusing to me at first!
On Leslie Saeta's blog this will be Day #3 instead of #1

I just signed up for the Leslie Saeta "30 Paintings in 30 Days" Challenge.

What am I thinking?

I decided that at worst I will fail at the challenge and at best it will get me to paint more.

AND...... this is a LUCKY painting I am posting on January 1 because I started it in December on a day where I also sold 2 paintings.  Finished date is 1-1-14.  This is unless I start noodling at it again which I do often.  But now I have to stop that because I have the pressure of churning out new paintings!

I have been a very lazy blogger of late.  Not so much lazy but having to put a few other things first in my life.  I am thinking I have a period of "back to normal" here for awhile so its back to painting for me.  Kind of intimidating to start.  I keep finding other little jobs I have to do to prep for painting.  Then I tell myself, "no more, just open the tubes of paint and go!"  We'll see if I do it today.

A few months ago I went on a Girls Getaway to Cabo with 3 other painters.  We swam, we read, we sketched and painted.  We drank margaritas and beer.  We counted our mosquito bites and tried every potion we could think of to keep the bugs off  (I think the Bounce Dryer Sheets really do work).

We traveled to Todos Santos, a wonderful little "artsy" town.  We traveled out to some wonderful dinner destinations and discussed our future dreams.  Most of all we laughed and joked and talked about having to do a trip next year...........

Dancing Trees is a very modern take on a Maui photo I shot years ago.

Baldwin Beach has many trees that need to be navigated to make your way to the warm sand and water.  It is a beautiful beach, as are most  Hawaiian beaches.

There are times when one canvas just isn't enough.  Sometimes a painter comes across a landscape scene that is so stunning,  you just need more.

These two paintings were created for the Scenes of Tustin show.  They can stand alone or hang side by side with the bottom one to the left of the top one.  It isn't possible on this site to show them side by side I don't think but you can always email me for an image showing this.

I didn't start out planning on doing a diptych.  I wanted to paint two Tustin (a city in California) landscapes and I wanted to paint them at the same time.  I started using the same photo on each of them - a shot I had taken with my sister, who lives in this area.  Soon, I saw that the two were lining up somewhat and it was then that I made the decision.  I would then work on one while the other was off to the side and then when I would put them together again I would laugh at how I had goofed.  After way too may goofs, it wasn't funny anymore...

So, after many adjustments, I think I've got it.
