This painting was created with many layers using brushes and palette knifes of different sizes. Layers were scraped back to reveal under paintings. It was a fun piece and one I could have kept working on forever - it is difficult to know when to stop!

Crystal Cove Walk

I am posting this painting even though it has sold because ..............

Crystal Cove beach is such a beautiful spot close to where I live and I am going to be painting more scenes of it in the future.  Let me know if you are interested in being notified when new pieces are finished.

I was just finishing up on this painting in a group studio when a visitor stopped by to see what the artists were painting.  We don't get a lot of visitors but occasionally someone will poke their head in and check on us.  She asked the price, said "I want it!" and that was that!

I painted this a few weeks ago in a studio with several artist friends.  We are together sometimes twice a week and one of the best things about painting together is the feedback from other artists you respect.

I had finished the main painting I had been working on for the day but was really on a roll.  I really enjoy the first part of creating a painting, when you are putting your first creativity into a piece yet are far from a finished product so there is none of the pressure that comes with a perfectionist nature - "who me???"

I had finished the piece but didn't know it yet when another artist walked over to check out my easel.

She almost yelled.  "Stop, don't you dare put another stroke on that!"  

She went on to explain how she loved the simplicity and how contemporary the painting was at this point.  Had I kept fussing with it she was concerned I would lose that.  I made myself stop and at least wait for awhile while I worked on starting another piece,  while at the same time checking back now and then with my eyes to see what I thought, over and over again!

I decided I agreed with her and hope you do too.

Here is the third painting for my latest triptych.  Next post,  I will show you a photo of the three of them framed together!  They are all 6 x 6" oil pieces on board and inspired by my love of the abstract and geometric views of farmland scenes.

6 x 6" oil on board.  This is the first of three pieces that I am going to frame together - another triptych!
I posted a pallete knife triptych of the Newport Beach Back Bay a few months ago.  This series of three small paintings is inspired by our California farmlands.  I love the shapes and color variations of the land while driving through or flying over these areas.  If I believed in past lives I think I would have to guess I had been a farmer.  I am the only person I know, living is Newport Beach, who composts!

Orange Hills

Orange Hills is painted on a 1 1/2 thick wrapped canvas.  It measures 20 x 20" and is painted in acrylic, rather than in my typical oil.  There is a base of red which I've allowed to peek through.  I just may get inspired to do a series of these.  I have been wanting to do some larger pieces and just bought a 30 x 40 canvas!

Light Dancing on Water

Upcountry Pool

6 x 6 Oil on canvas panel.  "Upcountry" is the upcountry part of Maui where the temperatures are lower, the flowers and produce is grown and the cows graze.  It is where I lived during one phase of my life.
Ah....... the phases.........
This painting was done a few months ago.  It probably is my personal favorite (or within a few) of the 6 x 6's that I have done.  I entered it into the Randy Higbee 6" squared show but it was rejected, with 2 others chosen instead.  It's interesting to see which paintings make it into a show, which paintings win awards, which ones you gather the most comments on and which ones you personally favor.  I am so drawn to works with strong lines.  I love very abstract paintings of crops for example -  rows of grape vines or miles of agricultural land sectioned off in wonderful shapes.
