Granite Beach by Janet Bludau, 12" x 24" Abstract Landscapes and Seascapes

Day 5 of the 30 Day Challenge
If I do say so myself I am quite impressed that I have made it this far.
I need to step it up though as I know I have days coming up where painting will be impossible.
The solution is to paint double, triple, another day.
AND, don't be painting large paintings.
BUT, what if you have a large commission to get done also?
Namaste, Mellow Out, Gzzz

Granite Beach measures 12" x 24", Oil and is painted on thick Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Bits of red underpainting show through

Land And Sea, Contemporary Abstract Landscapes and Seascapes by Janet Bludau

12" x 24"
Oil on Thick Gallery Wrapped Canvas

This painting started out with a solid layer of red paint.
From there, I did a simple drawing with very light, thin paint.
I mixed a few colors I thought I might like to use on my palette.
I then started with brushwork but still staying thin with my paint, being careful not to cover up all of my red undercoat.  After I was happy with my colors on the canvas, I went back in with thicker paint with my brushes and palette knives.  Again, being careful not to cover up all my red beneath.  Lastly, I did some scraping with the side of my knife in the foreground which gives us more grass like shapes and again, more undercoat to show through.

"Between Storms" 24 x 36 Beach/Coastal Oil by Janet Bludau

24" x 36" Oil on Canvas
$600
A woman and her dog are out for a morning stroll. The sun is peaking out but she knows it won't be for long.  There is another storm forecasted and it should hit within a few hours.  The storms are why she has a home at the coast.  The only room on the second story of her home is her large, sparse, bedroom with a small writing table at one end.  The entire wall facing the ocean is made up of windows.  There is nothing she loves more than to cozy up in her warm beach house while a storm passes through.

Abstract Beach Scene "Ocean Series 9" by California Janet Bludau

12" x 12"
Oil
Bits of red underpainting showing through.
I suppose I could have titled this painting "Strange Trees"!  They are done by palette knives, as is most of the painting.  The piece is very "edgy" (abstract) - I hope you like it!

Abstract Balboa Kayaks on Balboa Island, Newport Beach

12" x 12"
Oil
$300
Like most of my work, this painting was created with both brushes and palette knives.
Have you been to Balboa Island in Newport Beach?
It is a very popular vacation spot and also quite popular with locals
who cross the bridge to walk the island, take the ferry across to the peninsula or even
allow themselves to splurge on a Balboa Bar..........

Abstract Crystal Cove Beach Painting

12" x 16"
Oil on Canvas
Crystal Cove Beach is in Newport Beach California.  It is at the southern end, next to Laguna Beach.
It really is one of our most beautiful beach spots and includes tide pools, The Beachcomber Restaurant right on the sand and charming, renovated, historic cottages for vacation rentals.
My painting was created using brushes and also palette knives for parts of the picnic bench and also the sand portion of the painting.
If you live close enough,  put this on your summer "staycation" list!

Abstract "The Horizon" California Beach Painting

SOLD
We just returned from a week on Coronado Island near San Diego.
It was a week of bike riding, decorating bikes for the July 4th Parade,
drinks at The Del, fun dinners with many toasts in the yard by the pool, "performances"
from the kids, Gin Rummy, Apples To Apples and of course, time spent on the beach.

It was appropriate that "The Horizon" sold while I was on vacation.
I was told it would be a gift to a daughter who wants to live at the beach someday but is now
in Arizona.  I hope she makes it there soon!

Happy July To All Of You.............
